William Peter Blatty was an American author and filmmaker, born in New York to Lebanese immigrants, who was best known for his novel “The Exorcist,” published in 1971, which became a groundbreaking work in horror literature. A devout Catholic, Blatty’s writing often explored themes of faith, evil, and the supernatural, reflecting his own Jesuit upbringing. In addition to his literary success, he adapted his novel into a critically acclaimed film in 1973, which received ten Academy Award nominations and won two.
